Barriers for diabetes and hypertension treatment: insights from behavioral economics
The number of people who suffer from cardiovascular diseases increase every year, reaching the figure of almost 16.7 million deaths a year due to these causes. 80% of these deaths are produced in low-income countries. Nearly half of the deaths are of people under the age of 70. Diabetes is also an important disease to pay attention to. In 2009, it was the seventh leading cause of death, with a mortality rate of 19.2 per 100,000 inhabitants.
