Conference theme:

In 1954, W. Arthur Lewis published the pioneering article Economic development with unlimited supplies of labour in the Manchester School. It was a foundational scholarly piece for the field of development economics; see also this biography. He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Economics in 1979.
