New tool may identify those at risk for heatwave-related mental health issues
As anyone who has lived through the heatwaves this summer will know, high temperatures can make it hard to sleep, work, and socialise. Beyond day-to-day functioning, high heat is also linked to a higher risk of medical events such as heart attack and stroke, and can pose a threat to life, particularly for those already in vulnerable groups. Recent work has also revealed extreme heat’s risks to mental health, note the authors of a paper in Psychological Medicine.
