It’s not always clear when someone’s lost the ability to decide
Raymond Jones wasn’t using the door. He was climbing through the windows of his home in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. It was then, according to court documents, that his neighbours called the sheriff. When a deputy arrived, Jones couldn’t name the current president and said the year was 2055. He was placed on an emergency hold, taken into custody for psychiatric evaluation. But the decline had, in fact, been building for months: among other things, he’d been found pounding on a stranger’s door, shouting that his wife (who was long dead) had left him, and he had turned up at a medical centre searching for a non-existent friend. ….[READ]
