This Family-Run Taqueria Continues to Scale in Loudoun

Casa De Avila Tacos has become a household name in Loudoun’s culinary scene, starting their journey as a home-based enterprise, then scaling to a local establishment. Founded by Stephanie and Abraham Avila with the support and recipes of their families, the taqueria began with a simple mission: to share the authentic flavors of their home countries—El Salvador and Mexico—with their community.

The Avilas started by preparing traditional dishes in their home kitchen and quickly built a loyal following. The onset of the COVID-19 pandemic presented challenges, but also unique opportunities. The community’s emphasis on supporting local businesses, coupled with a rising demand for no-contact food options, provided an ideal environment for Casa De Avila Tacos to thrive.

Amidst their growing popularity, they were presented with an opportunity to participate in the Washington Football Team’s ‘Flavors of the DMV Showcase’ at FedEx Field. This event featured local vendors, and Casa De Avila’s inclusion highlighted their growth in the regional food scene. While preparing for the event, they discovered ChefScape, a food and beverage business incubator located in Leesburg. The use of a commercial kitchen allowed them to accommodate their growing customer base and operational needs, scale up production, and offer options like online ordering and catering services.

Now, Casa de Avila has scaled to an even greater level, opening their first brick-and-mortar location in Downtown Leesburg on Loudoun Street. They plan to begin welcoming guests in May 2025. This step is a major milestone along their entrepreneurial journey, and is something they’ve aspired to since we first met with them in 2023. Back then, Stephanie was quoted as saying, “We’re doing this for our kids, and this is the legacy we are leaving behind for them. Casa de Avila grew from just an idea but now we see this in our family’s future.”

As they move forward and soar toward their goals, the future looks promising, and their legacy is unfolding in front of them. The Avilas continue to work with their families inside and outside of the restaurant, emphasizing the importance of familial relationships, which guests can see in the restaurant décor, taste in the recipes, and feel in their presence.

With a solid foundation and continued community support, there is no limit to what Casa De Avila Tacos can achieve. Their journey from a home kitchen to having their own space is an inspiration to Loudoun’s entrepreneurial community. The Avilas were also featured in Loudoun Economic Development’s FY 2024 Annual Report: Faces of Loudoun.

Casa de Avila Tacos is located at 2C Loudoun Street SW in Downtown Leesburg.
